Organizational Turnaround in our Back Yard

I recently learned about a project a Harlem charter network, Democracy Prep Charter Schools, undertook in attempting a turnaround of another charter school that was failing. I thought the process of getting state approval to “fix the problem,” based on their success in building great schools sounded pretty different from what I see happening in other parts of the country.

An article here describes it: http://gothamschools.org/2011/03/22/in-a-first-a-charter-operator-will-try-to-turn-around-a-failing-charter/

The school presented initial results at a conference this past weekend and the experiment seems to have worked so far. I think there are a few examples of this type of work in a few cities, but I expect that continued results will push more folks into this space.
